BookmarkWiz 1.16 Update
It’s time for another update from the creator of BookmarkWiz, Koen Berkenbosch. This is the BookmarkWiz 1.16 Update, and I actually remembered to right-click the Update link in my Windows 7 64-bit Start Menu before attempting an automatic update this time. It went so smooth, I almost assumed something went FUBAR.
I’m happy to say, the Auto Update feature works perfect for me; old files were overwritten and the update process left personal settings such as user accounts and the Quick Indexing list alone, which means there is no need to import anything again subsequent to each update, something which is common in numerous software programs.
A quick glance at the change log:
- Totalpad.com and tagza.com existent email error handling
- Small bugfix in email testing function
- Reddit.com registration was fixed
- Whitespaces bug fixed in email adding/editing
Social Bookmarking websites often change their registration pages, ban user accounts for a number of sane or vain reasons, and change bits and pieces of code utilized by third party bookmarking tools, in order to increase their website and service’s overall performance. Thus, Koen as well as other bookmarking software developers must be on the alert when social sites supported by their software apply changes that may cause some features to not work any longer, and update their own software accordingly.
Users of bookmarking software must understand that this is a game of catching up, and that they should expect regular updates, like Koen does with BookmarkWiz. It is hardly something they must endure, as the Auto Update feature makes updating to the most recent version easy as a mouse click.
Montly subscription?
There are rumours going around, suggesting that Koen will start charging a monthly fee for updating BookmarkWiz, but he has been consistent in denying it will ever happen, and for what it’s worth, I feel confident that he will stand by his word. The support forum is not that busy yet, although the user activity is slowly picking up. I use BookmarkWiz when posting in my blogs, adding new content to my websites, and the Quick Indexing feature had one of my new domains indexed almost immediately. There are several free indexing tools on the Internet, but it is nice to have it so easily accessible in BookmarkWiz.
